StevePre Book: Fact 4

This is one of the proposed chapters:

I’m mixing rubber.

A nail through the foot would work best, but these kids are too soft to put up with that, so instead I’m mixing lighter, stronger rubber. I’m making shoes.

There are hundreds of steps in 880 yards alone. If I can take one ounce off this rubber, it’ll add up to 55 pounds over a mile distance, which means less weight to carry and more victories to celebrate for my soldiers.

Well, they’re not really my “soldiers” anymore–that’s what they were called when I was making boots in Italy during the War. We trained for mountain combat in skis at elevations over 9,000 feet, preparing to fight the Germany army. Now, these kids train near sea level for something that appears entirely different.

I left the Army with a Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal. Now, I deal with skinny little runts who grow their hair too long. People like you.
